How to care for your leather bags

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

Caring for our leather bags the right way is the key to maintaining their appearance and durability. Here are our favourite 5 easy hacks!

1. Avoid Overexposure to Sunlight

Always try to keep your bag out of direct sunlight and extreme heat, as it can cause the leather to fade, discolour and become brittle in the near future.

2. Avoid Overloading

Heavy items can definitely distort the shape of the bag, so let’s not put unnecessary stress on your bag’s strap and edges!

3. Regular Gentle Cleaning

Always handle your bag with clean hands, as dirt and grease may lead to discolouration. When cleaning, choose a soft, slightly damp cloth to wipe the surface of your bag to gently remove dust and dirt. Do not use harsh chemicals or excessive water, as they can damage the leather condition.

4. Storage

Always store your leather bags in a cool and dry areas at home. Be sure to put each bag in a dust bag to protect it from dust and accidental scratches. Always include a moisture absorber gel pack and activated charcoal deodourizer inside the dust bag to help you keep out mould growth and musty odour from your beloved bags!

Moisture Absorber Gel Pack

Slurpy Bear’s Moisture Absorber Gel Pack is a widely-loved and trusted product amongst leather bag owners! It turns into gel state after absorbing excess moisture. Depending on humidity and temperature conditions at home, we usually recommend to replace the gel pack every 1-2 weeks for best results. (Click image for more details!)

Activated Charcoal Air Purifier

Packed into super breathable non-woven bags, these activated charcoal beads are specially made to be more porous to absorb odours and toxic gases much more quickly. What’s more, it is REUSABLE as you can put them under sunlight near open windows for the charcoal to release the toxic gases into the outdoors, and they are good to be put back to good work again! 5. Rotating Use

You may have a favourite little black bag that matches everyday wear! However, it’s definitely good if you have a few bags to rotate every once in a while. This will prevent overuse of the leather bags, allowing each bag to rest and retain its shape for a much longer period.

Different types of leather may require slightly different care methods, so always check the manufacturer's care instructions for your specific bag. Though this requires effort, it is definitely worth it as we all want our leather items to look great and last for many years!
