Hooray! Singapore’s supermarkets have finally started charging for single-use plastic bags under the Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) initiative, just so we can all do our simple part in refusing these climate-changing plastics!
It is really so simple. Bringing along a reusable bag is just a small gesture, but in the long run, we are doing so much for ourselves and our next generations to live and breathe in a cleaner environment.
Person A: “But, sometimes I just FORGET to bring my own bag.”
Yup! You’ll never know when you’ll be buying stuff, so here’s what we would suggest! Simply put a reusable grocery bag in easy-reach places like your bags, office and/or car. This is so that whether be it a sudden need to stock up on groceries, get new clothes, bags or shoes, you’ll always have one resuable bag with you for your loots!
Person B: “But, sometimes I run out of RUBBISH BAGS for my home.”
Here’s our opportunity to be creative! Have you realised that plastic bags are just everywhere? They don’t just come in the form of supermarket grocery plastic bags.
There are also such bags that come as they contain your loaf of bread, bunch of vegetables, bag of apples, or even the plastic bags that come with your online shopping. Whenever you see plastic bags from your loots, do not throw them away, but RE-USE them as your home’s rubbish bags!
Bag size doesn’t matter, because you are definitely reducing waste when you start this as a new habit. Continually doing it is what’s going to make a great, great difference to our planet!
